Your Brand Isn't Recommended by DeepSeek? Six Common Causes and How to Check

PeiGEO3 min read

Ask DeepSeek "what tool should I use for this?" and find your brand missing from the answer. It is a common situation, and the cause is rarely in one place, so you need to check item by item.

One note first: different answers can rest on different material. Some draw on pages retrieved through web search; others lean mainly on what the model learned in training. You cannot tell from the outside which one a given answer used, so the approach below improves the material both sides can reach.

Do two things first

  1. Make sure you are testing the right questions. If you ask "How is Brand X?", all you learn is whether the model knows you. What you want to know is whether it recommends you when the user does not mention your name. Test with category questions, competitor comparisons and pain-point questions.
  2. Repeat a few times; do not rely on one run. The same question can get different answers. Not being mentioned once does not mean never.

Six common causes

  1. Too little third-party coverage. Models tend to repeat what many independent sources agree on. If rankings, reviews, comparisons and community discussions rarely mention you, there is little basis for mentioning you.
  2. Vague positioning. If even people struggle to say which category you belong to and what problem you solve, the model has a harder time placing you in a sensible recommendation list.
  3. Competitors are far more visible. In one category, brands cited by more sources repeatedly take the top slots, and you may be squeezed out of a length-limited answer.
  4. Outdated or conflicting information. Old prices, old names or the wrong category on third-party pages can get you skipped or described incorrectly.
  5. Content that is hard to read. Key information that loads on the client side, sits behind a login or is hard for crawlers to read.
  6. Missing Chinese-language context. If your material is mostly in English while users ask in Chinese, the model has little Chinese material to draw on.

Checklist

  • Do review and ranking pages in your category mention you, and is the information accurate?
  • Can your homepage say "what it is and who it is for" in one or two sentences?
  • Are the name, price and features on third-party pages consistent with your site?
  • Do you have Chinese-language introductions, FAQs and comparison content?
  • Is the important content in server-rendered HTML?

Confirm with data, not gut feeling

A few manual tries cannot show a trend. A more reliable approach is to fix a set of questions, collect on a weekly schedule, watch how mention rate and ranking move over several weeks, and look at DeepSeek separately from Qwen, ChatGPT and other platforms. PeiGEO supports this; for setup, see How to monitor brand visibility in DeepSeek and Qwen.
