LLM SEO: How to Get Your Brand Cited by Large Language Models
LLM SEO means improving the chance that large language models mention and recommend your brand. It is a close cousin of GEO and AEO, and the practical work overlaps heavily.
Why a model recommends one brand over another
A language model does not rank pages. It produces the answer that is most likely given what it has seen and, when search is on, what it retrieves. For brands this means:
- Brands mentioned often, consistently and in trustworthy contexts are recalled more easily.
- Brands with a clear category and use case are matched to questions more easily.
- Brands with recent, relevant sources are easier to cite when search is enabled.
Two ways an LLM learns about you
1. Training data (no web search). The model's built-in knowledge. You cannot change it quickly. You influence it over time through wide, consistent coverage.
2. Retrieval (web search on). The model fetches pages and cites them. You can influence this faster, by publishing clear pages and being present on sources the model tends to read.
In PeiGEO terms, the first is what an offline AI Recognition Check measures, and the second is what regular tracking with web search measures. Treat them as two separate scores.
A practical LLM SEO checklist
- State your category and who you serve in one sentence on your homepage.
- Use one canonical brand name and list known aliases on an About page.
- Create comparison and alternatives pages that are fair and specific.
- Earn mentions on third-party sites buyers trust.
- Add FAQ sections that mirror real questions.
- Re-test regularly: the same question can give different answers.
Check where you stand
Run your key buyer questions through several models and record the results. PeiGEO does this on a schedule and benchmarks competitors.
